Respite

Temporary relief for caregivers and families, is a service in which care is provided to:

  • individuals with disabilities and other special needs
  • individuals with chronic or terminal illnesses
  • individuals at risk of abuse or neglect

Reye Jean Timmer Memorial Fund

The Reye Jean Timmer Memorial Fund was established on March 8, 2006 in honor of Cofounder, Ed Timmer. Reye Jean was Ed's wife of many years and supported Ed unequivocally as he dedicated countless hours to the mission of Family Respite Care Services.

Contributions to the Reye Jean Timmer Memorial Fund will help families with expenses related to caring for their child with special needs that cannot be covered by any other funding source. For a list of expenses the Reye Jean Timmer Memorial Fund would support, please call our office. Keep in mind that the list is not inclusive of all allowable expenses. To contribute to the Reye Jean Timmer Memorial Fund, please mail your contribution to our office along with with the contribution form.

Sib's Camp/Night of Respite

Often siblings feel isolated and in the shadow of their brothers and sisters who have special needs. Sib's Camp is designed to give siblings of children with special needs something just for them. The camp offers opportunities for independent expression as well as group activities as well as sports. Crafts and games are also part of the program. The campers have an opportunity to identify with peers who have a brother or sister with a disability in a non threatening way. Campers enjoy the time they share with other campers who also have a sibling with a disability.
Night of Respite is held the same evening as Sib's Camp allowing the caregivers to have a complete break. Children with special needs are supervised by Respite providers helping the child with activities and socializing.

Respite Registry

Respite care is the most requested service from primary caregivers and the most difficult to access. Funding is usually so inadequate that families have to wait as long as 4 years to receive financial assistance to pay for the service. Families are also challenged to find qualified Respite Providers to deliver the direct care needed. We actively recruit individuals to provide respite care. Each respite provider who joins the registry receives an orientation and the opportunity for continued professional technical assistance and support. Contact information for respite providers on our registry is available to caregivers.

Respitality

This is an alternative to traditional respite care. Traditionally respite care is funded according to a specific diagnosis. However, often respite care is needed when there may be no diagnosed disability at all. Families in this situation as well as families on the waiting lists qualify for Respitality. Respitality also has a community component of business collaboration. Several local businesses have agreed to provide, free of charge or at nominal cost, a variety of services that enable our agency to put together an entertainment package for the families who qualify for the program. These packages can include dining and entertainment activities.

Respite Care Program

Our Respite Care program serves families of children, age 0-21, with developmental disabilities and allows families to receive a break from the day to day demands of parenting a child with special needs. In Rock County and throughout the state families are faced with long waiting lists for ongoing support and for their respite needs. Family Respite Care Services utilizes a needs based approach, helping families customize respite care to meet their individual families needs.
